The leader of Dabin Craft Gourd produced in Longgang District, Huludao City, is Lv Rongbin who is the fifth generation descendant of Calendering Gourd of Tianjin Style. The needling gourds and calendaring gourds are made with relief and needling techniques developed by himself and needle-carving stitching process with multi-layer superposition. He set up Dabin Gourd Crafts Workshop in Longgang District, Huludao City in 1993. There are 4 apprentices and more than 20 students in the workshop focusing on the creation, processing, production, sales and promotion of gourd artworks. The main products are various gourd artworks, tourist souvenirs, daily necessities (insect-keeping appliances, tea cans, pen-holders, incense barrels, aromatherapy, special-shaped gourds, wine gourds, etc.) and customized products according to customer needs. 

　　Dabin Craft Gourd carries out technological innovation on the basis of inheriting and developing traditional crafts. The four series of products, needling gourds, calendaring gourds, relief and needle-punched gourds and tourist souvenirs, have won many awards in various domestic exhibitions and have a great influence in the gourd industry in the country. Many works have been selected by the government and other units as gifts for foreign exchange or collected by foreign people. Lv Rongbin was awarded Liaoning Best-10 Cultural and Creative Design Talents by Liaoning Provincial Department of Culture. 

　　Needling gourd is also known as needle-carved gourd or needle-stroke gourd. The surface of the gourd is first depicted with a steel needle, then dyed with pine ink, so the picture forms a strong black-and-white contrast. Because the works do not fade, they can be preserved for a long time. The line carved by the steel needle is consistent and slender. The sculpture technology has reached the realm of "fine as silk" in the micro-sculpture technique, and also reflects the charm of line drawing in traditional Chinese painting. After hundreds of years of development, needling sculpture enjoys a very high reputation in the gourd industry and is a wonderful flower in gourd art. The calendaring gourd is also known as pressed flower gourd or flower-pinching gourd. Pressed flower means that cutting tools made of hard objects such as teeth, horns, agate and so on, are used to depress the parts around the pattern, make the surface of the gourd appear uneven stereo sense, and form beautiful relief effect of flowers, landscapes, figures and so on. The technology of pressing flowers doesn’t not destroy the hard skin on the surface of the gourd so the works can be preserved for a long time , even as long as a hundred years. It is a bright pearl in the gourd culture. The craft gourds have more appreciation value and higher added value through the combination of pressing flower technology and standard gourd technology.
